Categories: News,Tedder News The House Government Operations Committee this week heard testimony on legislation introduced by state Rep. Jim Tedder declaring the week of Sept. 11 to 17 Patriot Week in Michigan.Tedder, of Clarkston, said the bill designates the week every year as one during which people should reflect on the past and celebrate the nation’s history. The week begins on the anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks on America in 2001 and ends on Constitution Day, when the document was signed by the Constitutional Convention in 1787.“Patriot Week is a time to look back at our nation’s founding, the principles that molded the direction of our country, and the physical symbols of our history and our freedom to renew our spirit and unity as a nation,” Tedder said. “In order to have a future as a free republic, we must continually review and gain a new understanding of our past and the events that led to the formation of the United States.”The bill encourages citizens, schools and government, as well as public organizations, to participate in Patriot Week by celebrating the founding and development of the United States.Joining Tedder in testimony before the committee was Oakland County Sixth Circuit Judge Michael Warren, who originated the concept of Patriot Week, and Areyon Jackson, a senior at Cornerstone Schools. The bill remains under consideration by the committee.##### 14Sep Rep.
