Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami return in India’s 15-member squad for ICC Champions Trophy

first_imgStar batsman Rohit Sharma made a comeback to the Indian ODI squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, more than five months after being sidelined through injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named a 15-member squad for the upcoming tournament in England starting June 1.Unhappy with the new revenue model, which considerably slashes their share from global events in the 2015-23 cycle, India failed to submit a squad by an April 25 deadline, triggering panic among advertisers.Several members of the BCCI were in favour of pulling out of the tournament but court-appointed administrators, who are currently supervising BCCI operations, were against such drastic moves.WATCH: BCCI announces 15-member India squad for ICC Champions Trophy in JuneRohit has been drafted into the squad in place of opener KL Rahul, who is nursing a shoulder injury and will be out of action for another couple of months.Virat Kohli’s team will also see the return of fast-bowler Mohammed Shami, who is also making a comeback from injury and last played for the team in the World Cup in 2015.Ajinkya Rahane has been included as well while Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Umesh Yadav, Kedar Jadhav, and Jasprit Bumrah have retained their places in the squad thanks to their consistent performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey has also kept his place.There were no other surprises to the squad that had got the better of England earlier this year.
