OnePlus 6 may come with under display fingerprint scanner and launch as early as March 2018

first_imgOnePlus wasn’t, seemingly, happy moving the fingerprint scanner to the back on the OnePlus 5T. It was a radical shift from its usual design that keeps the sensor under the home button at front. If the new report is to be believed, it may remove the physical fingerprint scanner altogether on the upcoming OnePlus phone — the OnePlus 6.This can be done in two ways — one  the Apple way and another, the Vivo way.Like the iPhone X, the OnePlus 6 may get a 3D facial recognition system aided by a good camera, infrared light and AI based algorithms. This way it will be much more secure than the face unlock on the OnePlus 5T and will allow OnePlus to do away with the fingerprint scanner altogether. The Vivo way is to put an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor underneath the display. Vivo had already demonstrated this technology at Mobile World Congress in Shanghai this June. The sensor works through glass, OLED display and even aluminium. An under display fingerprint scanner will allow OnePlus 6 to have a bezel-less design, probably even more refined one than that of the OnePlus 5T and still keep the scanner at front. In fact many reports have earlier hinted this to be more probable, as the iPhone X’s tech is not only more expensive and complicated to implement but may require more time. Also, Hauwei has already deployed an under-glass fingerprint scanner on the Honor V10, despite giving it a thin bezel design, so the technology is not that nascent.Talking of time, the report also hints that phone may launch earlier in 2017 than the OnePlus 5 did in 2017. While the OnePlus 5 was launched in June, the OnePlus 6 may launch in March of 2018. Though nothing is certain and this timeline may shift.advertisementAlso Read: OnePlus 5T review: Takes the best of OnePlus 5 and makes it even betterAs for the design and specs, they will be an improvement over the OnePlus 5T. OnePlus 6 is said to come with a more refined design that will give more space to the screen — a bezel-less screen (similar to the iPhone X?). The display size will be bigger than the 5.5-inch display in the OnePlus 5 and the one that may sport 18:9 aspect ratio with QHD resolution. As for the chipset, it will most likely be the latest Snapdragon 845 that will make way on the Galaxy S9 and other flagships of 2018, paired to 6GB of RAM. There will also be an 8GB variant but OnePlus may combine it with 256GB storage this time, upgrading base variant to 128GB.Though the camera specs are not known yet, OnePlus is said to pay special attention to it give then the criticism that surrounded its last two phones. It could come with a dual camera setup but probably with better sensors and/or AI based enhancements.last_img
