first_imgFormer Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur on Wednesday expressed his disappointment at being removed from the post after the national team’s poor performance in the Cricket World Cup last month.Pakistan Cricket Board decided not to renew the contracts of head coach Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden in a move to revamp the national coaching set-up.”I am extremely disappointed and hurt,” Arthur told AFP shortly after the PCB announced his departure. “I did my wholehearted effort to lift Pakistan cricket,” the South African added.Arthur, 51, took charge of a mercurial Pakistan side in 2016 following stints with the national teams of South Africa and Australia and was keen on an extension, local media had reported.His initial appointment was for two years but he was given an extension until the 50-over World Cup and his contract was set to expire on August 15.Under him, Pakistan’s biggest gain was winning the ICC Champions Trophy two years back. The team became number one in ICC’s T20 rankings but their performance in Test cricket dipped drastically while it remained inconsistent in one-day format.Pakistan’s next assignment is a home series against Sri Lanka in October, starting with two tests that will be part of the World Test Championship.The PCB said they would immediately advertise the four coaching roles.Former all-rounder Mahmood said on Twitter he had given his best and was looking forward to moving on.”It’s been a tremendous journey with @TheRealPCB.
